No Movement In PLA Position After 5th Corp Commanders Meeting
- The PLA has not moved from their positions in Pangong, Depsang, and Gogra. This is clear after the last talks between lieutenant general Harinder Singh and the PLA major general Lin Liu on Sunday.
- Even after talks between lieutenant general Harinder Singh and the PLA major general Lin Liu on August 2, the PLA has shown no movement from their positions in Pangong, Depsang, and Gogra said the sources.
- The PLA had moved up from Finger 8 to Finger 4 and then, back to Finger 5. But there has been no movement since then, sources said.
- There are PLA troops inside Indian territory in the Depsang area. And in the Gogra area, which the Chinese had agreed to vacate, there are a handful of PLA soldiers there.
- There is also a huge buildup of PLA troops across the line of actual control. There are about two divisions close by and another one, not far away. This is a concentration of 25,000 troops and also, over a hundred tanks and lots of artillery. There has been no thinning out so far.
- With the talks stalled at this level, there is a plan to talk up the issue at a higher level. There has already been one meeting, though virtually, between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, the two special Representatives on the India-China border. It is felt at high levels of the government, that talks at a higher level seem necessary
- A China Study Group has just taken place. Though it comprises the foreign, home and defence secretaries, it was also attended by defence and external affairs ministers, Rajnath Singh and S Jaishankar and also, Ajit Doval
