MoD Signed Contract for Wet Lease of KC-135 Refuelling Aircraft

On March 28, 2025, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Metrea Management for Wet Leasing of one Flight Refuelling Aircraft (FRA) for providing Air to Air refuelling training to pilots of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy. Metrea will provide FRA (KC135 Aircraft) within six months, which will be the first FRA to be wet leased by IAF.

Under a wet lease arrangement, Metrea will not only provide the aircraft but also handle its maintenance, crew, and operational support, allowing the Indian forces to focus solely on training.

The KC-135, a proven aerial refueling platform, is widely regarded for its reliability and versatility. With this acquisition, India seeks to augment its training infrastructure amid growing regional security demands. The aircraft is expected to be operational by September 2025, enabling pilots to master mid-air refueling techniques—a vital force multiplier that extends the range and endurance of fighter jets like the Rafale, Su-30 MKI, and naval aircraft such as the MiG-29K.
