TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)

Indian defence

Founded in 2007, headquartered at Hyderabad, Tata Advanced Systems Limited is a subsidiary of Tata sons. It is a strategic and defence arm of TATA group. TASL is one of the India’s fast emerging defence and aerospace player in India. Its product and services ranges in areas of :-

  • Missile systems and sub-systems
  • Radar systems and sub-systems
  • Command and control system for missiles
  • Aerospace and aerostructures
  • Unmanned aerial systems
  • Homeland security solutions

TASL is currently expanding its base by joint venturing with many Indian and foreign defence manufacturers. Some of its joint venture projects include :-

  • Designing and manufacturing of Missile Control Centers (MCC) for Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) and Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) with DRDO
  • Production of aerostructures, wing boxes and in empennages (tail of aircraft) with collaboration of Lockheed Martin for its C-130 Hercules and C-130 J Super Hercules aircrafts
  • Assembly of Sikrosky S-92 helicopter cabin in India
  • Manufacturing of Airbus C-295 aircraft with collaboration of Airbus. 40 aircraft to be manufactured in India (as per agreement)
  • Aerostructure production of Pilatus PC-12 NG aircraft
  • Lockheed Martin has announced that, with TASL it will build wings of F-16 fighter jets
  • Fuselage (body of aircraft) for AH-64 Apache helicopter with Boeing
  • Collaboration with Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) for developing and building of UAVs

Mahindra Defence

Mahindra Defence Systems is a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra. It is a leading provider of innovative, armoured solutions for the military and paramilitary forces. It has over 70 years of varied experience in managing large projects and operations. Mahindra have been involved with defence systems since 1947 when a licensing agreement allowed it to become importers, assemblers and then adapters of the iconic Willys Jeeps used in World War-II.

From there, it has moved into designing and constructing of its own armoured vehicles to become the largest private sector supplier to the government. Mahindra have now expanded into other defence systems like surveillance solutions, aircraft mobile surveillance and modern defence equipment for Army, Navy and Air Force.

Mahindra Emirates Vehicle Armouring is a part of Mahindra Defence, which offers a wide range of armoured personnel carriers, armoured SUVs; armoured pickups, armoured buses, armoured cash in transit vans, armoured and non-armoured ambulances. It provide a full vehicle armouring solution by taking a holistic approach in the design and engineering process, guaranteeing all potential weaknesses are eliminated.

Mahindra Armored is a quality conscious manufacturer of armoured vehicles, providing customised high-end armouring solutions. It offers armoured personnel carriers, light armoured vehicles & mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle for VIPs, government agencies, army, military and para-military forces, diplomats, and NGOs such as united nations.

Mahindra ALSV

Indian defence

Recently, Indian Army has ordered 1300 Mahindra ALSV. It is a advance light specialist vehicle. It offers ballistic protection and can be used in missions like patrolling in high-intensity areas, border security and reconnaissance.

Mahindra MPV-I

Indian defence

Mahindra Mine Protected Vehicle-I (MPV-I) is a mine resistant and ambush protected type vehicle and also a specialist off road vehicle. It can carry 16 defence personnel and can sustain upto 14 kg of TNT blast.

Straton APC

It is the light armored personnel carrier. It offers ballistic protection and can carry 8 defence personnel.

Mahindra Surveillance Aircraft

Mahindra Airvan is a rugged, reliable, efficient and highly cost-effective platform for numerous tasks across aerospace, defence and commercial sectors.

Ashok Leyland

Ashok Leyland, owned by Hinduja group, headquartered in Chennai Tamilnadu is a manufacturer of trucks and commercial vehicles. It is second largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India, the third largest of buses and the tenth largest manufacturer of trucks in the world.

It is not a specialised defence manufacturing company but it is manufacturing trucks, engines etc., for Indian Armed Forces with collaboration of Ordinance Factories Board (OFB), from the past 50 years.

In 2008, the Hinduja group separated its commercial and defence manufacturing divisions. The Ashok Leyland Defence Systems was formed in 2008, to continue its defence manufacturing as a specialised defence manufacturing company. As of now Ashok Leyland is world’s largest producer of medium-duty defence vehicles.

Ashok Leyland has a glorious past in serving our defence services. The Hardy Hippo was first truck to be manufactured by Ashok Leyland for Indian Armed Forces. It was used as a carrier and for mounting communication equipment, the Hippo was a regular in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, in the 1970s. As of now more than 50,000 vehicles manufactured by Ashok Leyland are in service of our defence forces. Some of its product includes :-

Stallion trucks

Indian defence

The Stallion is a medium duty defence vehicle with multiple logistical, tactical and special purpose applications. The Stallion trucks have operational capabilities across climatic zones such as Alpine, Subtropical, Tropical and Arid zones. The Stallion is used by the Indian Army across the varied climate and terrain of India from coastal operations to high altitude bases, from deserts to snow covered mountainous regions. The Stallion forms the logistical backbone of the Indian Armed Forces with over 60,000 Stallions used by the Indian Army, all manufactured at the Vehicle Factory Jabalpur.

Stallion 6×6

Stallion 6×6 is a Medium duty, General Service Logistic vehicle dedicated to operate in tough terrains under adverse weather conditions. It is fitted with indigenously designed, developed and manufactured drivetrain, Fully Floating with differential Lock at Rear Axle, Full Air-Dual Line Brakes that provides excellent mobility and maneuverability. PAYLOAD – 7.5 TON

Super Stallion 8×8

Super Stallion 8×8 is a Heavy duty vehicle, dedicated to operate in different terrains under extreme weather conditions and high altitudes. It is fitted with indigenously designed, developed and manufactured drivetrain, Hub reduction axles, Emergency Power Steering and pneumatic brakes with ABS that provides excellent mobility and maneuverability. PAYLOAD : 25 TON
