On March 29, 2025, In a rapid and compassionate response to the catastrophic earthquake that ravaged Myanmar on March 28, 2025, the Indian Army has mobilized a specialized medical task force under ‘Operation Brahma’ to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance. The deployment underscores India’s unwavering commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and the ancient philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva’ Kutumbakam’—the world is one family.

A 118-member team from the elite Shatrujeet Brigade Medical Responders, led by Lieutenant Colonel Jagneet Gill, departs for Myanmar. Equipped with essential medical supplies and cutting-edge equipment, the Airborne Angels Task Force is specially trained to provide advanced medical and surgical care in disaster-stricken regions. Their mission: to bring hope and healing to a nation reeling from the devastating natural disaster.

As part of the operation, the Indian Army will establish a 60-bed Medical Treatment Centre in the affected area. This facility is designed to offer immediate care to earthquake victims, with the capacity to handle trauma cases, perform emergency surgeries, and provide critical medical services. The initiative aims to bolster Myanmar’s overwhelmed healthcare system, which has been pushed to its limits by the scale of the calamity.

“The Indian Army stands shoulder to shoulder with our friends in Myanmar during this hour of crisis,” said a senior official involved in the operation. This deployment reflects India’s resolve to act as a first responder in the region, extending a hand of support whenever our neighbors are in need.

The mission has been meticulously coordinated with India’s Ministry of External Affairs and in close partnership with Myanmar authorities to ensure seamless delivery of aid.
