Indian Air Force Clarified GPS Disruptions In Myanmar

IAF responds to reports of GPS spoofing in Myanmar. The Indian Air Force (IAF) clarified that their aircraft faced expected GPS disruptions during earthquake relief missions in Myanmar, as Mandalay International Airport had issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) about degraded GPS availability, ensuring pilots were prepared.

According to the IAF, Mandalay International Airport had published a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) prior to the mission, warning of potential GPS disruptions in the area. The IAF emphasized that its crews were well-prepared for such conditions, taking all necessary precautions to ensure flight safety and mission success. “IAF crews are well capable of handling such unavailability while ensuring the safety of flight and the achievement of the designated task or mission,” the IAF stated on X. The relief operation met all its planned objectives, successfully delivering critical aid to the earthquake-hit regions of Myanmar.

Operation Brahma involved a fleet of six aircraft, including the IAF’s C-130J, which transported 16 tons of humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, rice, and other essential food items, from Delhi to Mandalay. The mission also included setting up field hospitals and deploying rescue personnel to assist the affected population, underscoring India’s commitment to regional humanitarian assistance.

While GPS spoofing and jamming have been frequently reported in conflict zones, this incident marks the first publicly acknowledged case involving Indian military aircraft in Myanmar. Indian Media reported that the Indian Air Force C130J aircraft involved in the operation experienced GPS interference, prompting aircrews to rely on alternative navigation methods after being briefed on the initial incident.
