Civilians, Soldier Among 13 Killed In Firing Incident In Nagaland

Thirteen people, including a soldier, lost their lives in a firing incident in the Tiru village area in Nagaland’s Mon district on Saturday evening. Superintendent of Police Imnalensa confirmed thirteen deaths in the incident.

As per reports, a group of civilians from Oting village were returning home in a pick-up mini truck when they were shot at by security forces. Local sources said that volunteers from the village had gone searching for them as they had not returned for several hours and found their bodies in the truck.

In anger, the locals reportedly set two vehicles belonging to the security forces on fire.

At least six people died in a firing incident in Oting in Nagaland's Mon district on Saturday night.

CAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT

In an official statement, Assam Rifles said a specific operation had been planned in the area “based on credible intelligence of likely movement of insurgents”.

“The incident and its aftermath are deeply regretted. The cause of the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per the course of law,” the statement added.

As per the Assam Rifles’ statement, one soldier lost his life and some others suffered severe injuries in the incident.
