Army Reaches Out To Kin Of Youth With Terror Links
In a first, an Army commander on Tuesday met members of around 80 families whose wards have joined various terrorist groups. He urged them to bring the misguided youth back in whatever way possible.
“I request you to pull out your children from the swamp called terrorism. I leave it up to you how you pull them out but please do it,” Lieutenant General DP Pandey, General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, told the families at a function — Jashn-e-Janoob’ (festival of south) — in south Kashmir.
Vijay Kumar, IGP, Kashmir Range, told the parents that police and security forces had been providing opportunities (to local terrorists) to surrender during live encounters.
The Army commander cautioned the families against the white-collar terrorist roaming among the general masses. “The children of these while-collar terrorists are enjoying and studying in the rest of the country, but your children are targeted by these people. Beware of them,” Lt Gen Pandey said.
Lt Gen Pandey warns of white-collar terror
- Lt Gen DP Pandey says white-collar terrorists put their kids to studies, but persuade wards of others to join militancy
- Need for drugs, impressing girls or fascination for guns are among the reasons driving youth to become terrorist, he adds.
