7 Leaders Who Once a Proud Soldier Now a Corporate Hero

Hello Defence Lovers, India has one of the largest armies in the world. Our soldiers are proving their mettle not only in the service tenure but also outside the field. Our proud soldiers make proud corporate officers post retirement. Retired defence personnel are considered to be most service minded and disciplined people. And when they become an entrepreneur or a corporate officer the whole idea of a duty seems to be unique in its own way. In this article we are sharing story of seven ex-defence individuals who have contributed in the private sectors and are leading the corporate world today.

(1.) Neelima Karath


  • Neelima Karath, who left the Indian Army in March 2013, is currently working as a Finance Professional with global financial services giant, Goldman Sachs. She has served Short Service Commission (SSC) as an Officer for six years.
  • She has worked for the Indian Army for 5 years and now is a successful corporate officer.
  • Neelima underwent the six-month MBA certificate course at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad which has landed her with the current job.
(2.) CDR. K.P Sanjeev Kumar

  • CDR K.P Sanjeev Kumar, who now works for a global helicopter services company is a graduate with honours in Experimental Flight Test Course.
  • He has a flight test experience of about 10 years. He has worked with the Indian Navy with par excellence. Kumar describes himself as “a buoyant extrovert with an ever-learning attitude towards the wonderful world of flight and flying machines”.
  • He retired from the Navy with a certificate course in Business Management from IIM, Ahmedabad.
  • He is presently flying with India’s largest private-sector helicopter operator for the offshore oil & gas industry. 
(3.) Major Prashant Rai

  • Major Prashant Rai is Founder & CEO at OTJ247.com. He is an ex-army officer turned into an entrepreneur never imagined the services business sector to be better than the others.
  • In 2006, he launched his first venture Balram Corporate Services, a company which deals with comprehensive security and allied facility management, private investigation.
  • In the same year, he launched another company which deals with fire and safety gadgets. 
(4.) Capt. Raghu Raman

  • Raghu Raman, the former CEO of the National Intelligence Grid has a unique blend of career experiences. He began his career with the Indian Armed forces.
  • In 1998, Capt. Raghu Raman left the army and joined the Mahindra Group where he worked and led different companies starting with the United World Colleges, then as the CEO of FirstChoice, CEO of MahindraSSG and finally as the CEO of the joint venture between BAE and Mahindra.
  • In 2009, Raghu was handpicked to create and lead the National Intelligence Grid, an ambitious project set up post the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, India by the Ministry of Home of the Indian Government. 
(5.) Col. Sanjeev Kumar

  • Col. Sanjeev Kumar has over 25 years of rich experience in the Indian Armed forces. He has worked in UNITED NATIONS and IT/ BPO, manufacturing and consulting industry.
  • He is a multi-faceted HR professional with excellent managerial experience in revamping of HR processes and facilities with accountability for strategic utilisation and deployment of available resources to achieve organisational objectives. 
(6.) Kulmeet Bawa

  • Kulmeet Bawa began his career with the Indian Army (Armoured Corps) in 1990. An alumni of the National Defence Academy, he has an experience of 12 years with the Indian Armoured Corps prior to joining the corporate world in 2002.
  • Kulmeet is the Managing Director of Adobe India & South Asia. Prior to this he has also serve as Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of an Indian state before entering the corporate world.
  • Leading the business for Adobe Systems in the region, his focus on expanding its footprint across verticals and in establishing the Digital Marketing business. 
(7.) Major Manjit Rajain
  • Major Manjit Rajain was commissioned in the 11 Armoured Regiment of the Indian Army in 1984. During his 7 years of service he was actively engaged in operations in Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Using his knowledge based security experience; Major Rajain forayed into entrepreneurship and incorporated Peregrine Guarding in 1995, which has been independently rated by KPMG, EY, Deloitte and Grant Thornton as amongst the top 4 security service providers in India.
  • At the helm of the Group having 6 distinct yet integrated verticals – Tenon Facility Management, Peregrine Guarding, Rotopower, Office & General (O&G), Soteria and Frontline Security, he now oversees the continuous and planned growth of the company in terms of business, market and portfolio through acquisition and new business ventures.
